The Role

As a Junior Developer, you’ll be using the Microsoft Tech Stack and best-of-breed software and data architecture to meet clients' needs. Your role will be to create, maintain and improve systems in line with business needs. You’ll test both hard and software systems with the aim to diagnose and resolve system faults.

You will need to develop customer-facing web-based applications and create innovative solutions that solve our client’s problems and enable our business to grow. Working collaboratively with other teams within Amberjack, such as Assessment, Resourcing Services and other areas of the Technology department, you will aid in ensuring our software applications meet the needs of clients and their users and are high quality and responsive.

Key tasks you will be responsible for include:

  • Designing, building and maintaining efficient, reusable and reliable C# code
  • Delivering new or improved capabilities for our clients
  • Ensuring the best performance, quality and responsiveness of applications
  • Identifying and resolving bottlenecks and bugs
  • Maintaining code quality, organisation and automation
  • Integrating our systems with other 3rd party systems
  • Completing scheduled project work to meet client needs

To be effective, you need to commit to spending a proportion of your time in our Newbury-based offices with your team, although home working will also be available.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for individuals with strong knowledge of the C# language, who are able to demonstrate good OO principles and practices, SOLID and design patterns. You should have experience in ASP.NET MVC, Single Page Applications and modern JavaScript/Typescript frameworks, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate with different members of the business effectively.

It’s important that you show an ability and eagerness to learn new skills and technologies quickly as you’ll work on new projects that require new knowledge regularly. These projects all run with strict timelines, so you’ll also need to be confident and able to work through high-pressurised situations and environments. Problem-solving plays a vital part in this role, so you’ll need to be able to resolve any problems with appropriate and effective solutions, as well as implement those solutions immediately.

Other desirable, but not essential, experience includes:

  • Exposure to IOC Framework
  • TDD, BDD, unit testing and mocking frameworks
  • HTML5 & CSS3
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Understand of cloud computing platforms
