What my apprenticeship means to me

At Amberjack we’re passionate about developing and supporting our people. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we wanted to share the experiences of some of our team and the apprenticeship journey they’ve taken.

My name is Pam Hand and I’m a Senior Technical Operations Engineer. Taking a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Software and Web Development has enabled me to change my career path, improve my knowledge and gain a recognised IT qualification.

The apprenticeship took a year and a half to complete. It included five parts covering topics such as C# fundamentals, object orientation, web development using ASP.NET and data modelling to Access databases. In addition to learning about technology, the apprenticeship gave me valuable thinking and learning skills. These included creative thinking, independent learning, reflective learning, team working, self-management and effective participation.

The apprenticeship has given me a better understanding and grounding in software development. Since completing the apprenticeship I’ve been able to use the knowledge and skills I’ve learnt to support our clients. It’s also enabled me to further my career by supporting my promotion to Senior Technical Operations Engineer. I really enjoyed my apprenticeship journey and I’ve recently taken my learning a step further by starting a BSc honours degree in Computer Science.
