Lockdown has affected everyone’s job - but young people have suffered more with unemployment.

Now Kickstart has been launched to do something about it.

Kickstart is part of the government’s Plan for Jobs. The target is to create more than 250,000 new six-month job placements in England, Scotland and Wales for people aged 16-24 who are on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

Statistics on the number of young people out of work make sobering reading.  In the July-September 2020 quarter, 602,000 young people aged 16-24 were unemployed. This was a rise of 53,000 from the previous quarter, and an increase of 101,000 from the same period the year before.
