The Background

As a green Gas and Electric Energy supplier, Scottish Power are helping people achieve a more environmentally friendly way of living. Amberjack are supporting Scottish Power by engaging their new hires during their ‘keep warm’ period. We delivered four workshops on personal brand and transition to work life for a large cohort in order to build connections for graduates before starting their role, to get work ready.

The interactive, Scottish Power tailored, virtual sessions were accompanied by postworkshop resources for embedded learning and our Development Passport. This personalised resource hub full of organisational information, introductions, and knowledge, is critical to keeping cohorts engaged before they join.

They offer 10 graduate schemes including Technology, Finance, Manufacturing and People, alongside our better known Retail and Supply Chain programmes. Degree Apprentices can join the award winning programmes via Manufacturing, Corporate, Logistics, Retail and Food Tech.

Our Objective

To help new hires adapt to their new organisational culture and succeed in role, ScottishPower wanted to reinvent the entry experience of their Graduate Induction Programme. By fostering a sense of belonging, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring professional readiness, ScottishPower wanted to create an ‘engagement journey’ and build the foundation for long-term careers.

Underscoring the value of new Early Talent to the business, this approach integrated sessions into a comprehensive development plan, aiming to foster consistency, unlike standalone university workshops.

Our Solution

Amberjack supported ScottishPower by creating engaging pre-boarding sessions focused on the transition to work life and understanding personal brand. The workshops were delivered to complement existing keep warm initiatives and Amberjack ensured the content was aligned to ScottishPower’s objectives and feedback from key stakeholders.

These interactive virtual sessions helped ScottishPower’s graduates to build connections before starting their role, while getting work ready. These were also accompanied by post-workshop resources which were shared with the graduates on Amberjacks Development Passport technology. This ensured that learning could be continued in a self-paced format maximising the ROI. The Development Passport is a personalised resource hub full of organisational information, introductions, and knowledge, and is critical to keeping cohorts engaged before they join.

The Impact

After partnering with Amberjack, ScottishPower’s renege rate dropped from 26% in 2023 to 12% in 2024, while also achieving a 100% retention rate in comparison to 98% from November 2023.

Additionally, 100% of graduates were ‘satisfied’ (9%) or ‘completely satisfied’ (91%) with the programme’s Keep Warm Programme, with managers also reporting increased behavioural readiness and crediting the pre-boarding sessions.

In today’s market, with soft-skills and work-readiness being a major talking point for employers and their incoming cohorts, these results have never been more important.
