BT is one of the world’s leading communications services companies, serving the needs of customers in the UK and more than 170 countries worldwide. In the UK they are the leading communications services provider, selling products and services to consumers, small, medium sized enterprises and the public sector. Globally, BT supply managed networked IT services to multinational corporations, domestic businesses and national and local government organisations.
Amberjack proved to be the right team to support and guide us through the creation and implementation of a new programme to recruit the best graduates in a challenging market.
We worked in partnership with BT to manage their UK graduate programmes. These consisted of seven business functions; Business Management, Contact Centre Management, HR, Legal, Marketing, Procurement & Supply Chain, and Sales.
As a result of the successful management of the UK programmes, BT asked us to support their international recruitment. This meant expansion of the solution to support a further 12 countries, and management of their new centralised graduate recruitment to deliver the talent they need.
In terms of hiring volumes, there wasn’t a huge increase (c.30 hires). But it would add a significant amount of additional complexity to the management of the recruitment programmes. To achieve success we needed to deliver a high level of service for both BT country leads and candidates across the globe.
We supported BT’s global graduate recruitment from application stage through to scheduling of candidates into assessment centres. The campaign was managed by our resourcing services team using the award winning Ambertrack ATS. We delivered an exceptional level of candidate experience to keep candidates engaged and protect BT’s brand. BT was further supported by our assessment & development team. They ensured BT was able to identify the quality global talent they needed.
The transition from a local to global solution was easy to implement. Extra capacity was built into the resourcing team. Also, BT benefitted from complete visibility of their recruitment with forecasted hiring volumes.
Managing the number of global stakeholders was a challenge. But, because the methodology was simple, technology dynamic and processes tried and trusted, the client experience, like the candidate experience, was first-rate.
The introduction of a Match-Me tool at candidate registration was hugely successful. This massively reduced applications from unsuitable candidates by over 40%. Simultaneously more time was able to be devoted to engaging appropriate candidates – verified by candidate satisfaction surveys.
Detailed analysis of the impact of recruitment on ethnic minority and gender groups was captured. We provided key recommendations which were adopted by BT for the future development of their graduate campaigns.
The centralised management of graduate recruitment programmes was extremely successful. In total over 3,000 candidates submitted an application. Of these, 130 candidates progressed to assessment centres, in line with our forecasted 3:1 success ratio at this stage. Over 30 candidates have been offered roles by BT International across their 8 global business functions.
