Apprentices Need Room to Grow and Expand: 2025 Apprentice Spotlight with Daniel

As we approach the end of Apprenticeships Week for 2025, we come to our final Apprentice Spotlight, this time featuring Recruitment Coordinator Apprentice, Daniel…

“My name is Daniel, I have just been to college where I studied A level maths, business, and computer science. I play football and badminton in my spare time and taught myself how to play guitar and piano. I can also cook, but I predominantly make curries.”

We started by asking Daniel about the impact of entering the workforce as a young apprentice, and what he thinks the differences between grads and apprentices are…

“I believe it depends on the apprenticeship that you want to do. I believe that in my apprenticeship it has not made a difference, due to the amount of knowledge and skill you need to complete the job being less specific than others.

I don’t believe there’s skills that graduates could bring to this role that an apprentice wouldn’t other than professionalism. However, that is from graduates being predominantly older which suggests maturity.”

Like our other Apprentice Spotlights this week, we asked Daniel about his confidence in his soft skills, and interacting with employees at a variety of business levels…

“Yes, I feel very confident in my soft skills. Being in a team means you must communicate well with your other colleagues and present ideas to the group occasionally. I manage my time well and set out tasks I need to complete.

Next, Daniel spoke about the type of support and activities employers can offer to encourage apprentices just like him to apply to their workforce…

“Allow the apprentice to bring ideas to the table. An apprentice shouldn’t be just doing the same tasks, but over time given more responsibility and the option to grow. If there is no room to expand their skills, or they are not given a challenge it can make them demotivated to work.”

To round off our Apprentice Spotlights, we asked Daniel if there was anything else he wanted to add about his experience as an apprentice. He spoke to how Amberjack has helped hum develop his skills…

“I believe Amberjack have done a good job of building up my skills gradually. They do a good job of easing an apprentice into the workplace. The balance of college and work is nice, and I believe it’s a good step into the workplace and what working full-time is like.”
